Parish Newsletter
Advent: During Advent, the Sunday Mass readings tell of God’s salvific plans in the Old Testament, mainly from the Prophet Isaiah. The Advent Wreath represents the years before the birth of Christ and the eternity of God. The four candles stand for the four weeks in Advent. The wreath derives its origin from the (German) Lutherans and it has been taken by other Christian communities including Catholics.
Evening Prayer of the Church for Advent will be at 7 pm on Wednesdays in Advent, 8th, 15th and 22nd December 2021. You may attend in person or view on webcam.
The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary 8th December, Vigil Mass at 7 pm Tuesday, Mass of The Immaculate Conception at 10 am Wednesday 8th December. 7 pm Evening Prayer of the Church.
Thank you: Thanks to all who contribute to the Common Fund/Priests Collection, Share, and the Voluntary Family Offering (V.F.O.). Your generosity continues to maintain the parish and diocesan services in these challenging times.
Assistance from Volunteers: The assistance from volunteers in packing the Christmas Card envelopes/dues envelopes is very much appreciated.
Christmas Masses 2021
Due to the Covid -19 social distancing restriction still applying, capacity in the church remains limited. It has been decided, with this in mind, that tickets be required for attendance at the Masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Tickets for the Christmas Masses will be available at the church after each vigil/ Sunday Mass on the weekend of Saturday/ Sunday 11/ 12 December.
Tickets will not be available from the parish office in the Parish Resource Centre at any time.
It is a pity that we are not in a position to accommodate more people at the Christmas Eve/ Day Masses.
If a lockdown of the Church around Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is made obligatory by the Authorities, the Christmas Eve/ Day Masses at the times on the accompanying Christmas card will be available on the webcam only.
The webcam may be accessed at the website www.holyfamilyparish.ie
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Michael O’Connor, Adm. 29th November 2021
I don’t rob banks, but...
None of us in the parish (we hope...) rob banks or even shoplift. We would consider these as sins. We’d be horrified if we were accused of them, or similar offences against morality. Yet collectively we may be guilty of an even graver offence - that of behaving in such a way as to threaten the whole future of the human race, together with the totality of other living things, animal and plant life, on the earth.
The climate change crisis is that serious in moral terms. It is a social and communal crisis greater than for example WW 2, since no one can escape it, and its consequences will affect us all for millennia. For Catholics therefore how we respond to the climate crisis is above all a moral question, far more than we may have been prepared to admit. This is why Pope Francis has called us to an ecological conversion. Let us be leaders in this, or have future generations ask why we left it too late.
Our next parish litter pick-up is this coming Saturday, 4th Dec, Resource Centre, 10.30 am. Come along if you can.
The Parish Environment Group meets on Wed 10th Dec, Resource Centre, 7 pm. New members are always welcome.
